Under what working conditions are the Big Bags made?

Virtually all of Portex Holland’s big bags are manufactured in factories in the Far East, and produced entirely according to the strict SA8000 certification standard.

In particular, this international standard relates to workplaces and working conditions in factories. This involves strict monitoring of issues such as: child labor, forced labor, health, safety, working hours and pay. That’s doing business with peace of mind!

What is UV stabilized?

Prolonged exposure to sunlight slowly degrades most types of plastic.

Portex Holland’s big bags are made of UV-stabilized polypropylene, so the bags do not suffer damage when exposed to sunlight. Ideal for indoor and outdoor applications!

What safety instructions apply when handling Big Bags?

FIBCs (flexible intermediate bulk containers), or big bags, can be used in many ways. Big bags are compact, safe and easy to move. However, it is important that you observe the necessary safety instructions and tips when transporting, hauling, loading, unloading and stacking the big bags.

A few safety tips in a row:

FILLING AND UNLOADING OF BIG BAGS

– Provide a stable surface before filling (e.g. on the ground or on a pallet)
– Use the filling mechanism, from which you hang all four loops
– Before filling – if applicable – check that the unloading hose is closed
– When filling, loading and unloading big bags, always check that no one is standing under them
– Are you working with type C, i.e. anti-static big bags? Ground first, then fill!
– Never exceed the maximum load capacity (Safety Working Load
– Make sure the weight is evenly distributed
– When unloading, use gravity or an unloading system
– Do you want to be able to dose? Use big bags with unloading hose

MOVING BIG BAGS WITH FORKLIFT TRUCK

– Before moving, make sure all loops are vertical (not twisted)
– Use all lifting loops at once, to distribute the weight
– Make sure the fork width of the forklift is adjusted correctly
– Check your fork for sharp edges before lifting the big bag or use protection to transport the big bags without damage
– Avoid sharp objects to prevent damage and accidents
– Always keep the big bag low to the ground and horizontal

MOVING BIG BAGS WITH CRANE

– Before moving, make sure all loops are vertical (not twisted)
– Check the crane hooks for sharp edges before lifting the big bag, or use dedicated safety hooks
– Use all lifting loops at once, to distribute the weight

TRANSPORT, STACKING & STORAGE OF BIG BAGS

– Make sure the big bags are stable; in racks, on pallets or on a flat surface
– When stacking, be sure to use the appropriate instructions and suitable big bags. Preferably, place the big bags between two or three walls to ensure maximum stability. Let one of our staff members provide you with safe advice!
– Store your big bags in a clean, covered and dry place to ensure maximum longevity.

Finally, always read the confirmed label handling instructions before handling the big bags!
